Wood-fired sculptures
This series of work is inspired by an image I saw in a catalogue of exhibition ‘Living Traditions of India’, curated by Rajeev Sethi, which was called Aditi - The Mother of Fertility. I am exploring creation itself and its beauty along with exploring the formal aspect of this ritual object. I am also in parallel exploring the Shiva lingam, where masculine and feminine come together in a powerful form which most humans in the Indian sub-continent revere. I absolutely enjoy playing with formal aspects of these concepts, in addition to bringing varied and brilliant surfaces with the use of wood- firing. These works are created using the processes of wheel throwing, coil building, and press molding.
